SITUATION OVERVIEW

Strikes by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continue, with aerial, land and maritime bombardment across the Gaza Strip resulting in civilian casualties, mass displacement and the destruction of homes and infrastructure. Since October 2023, nine out of ten people in Gaza have been internally displaced, with some experiencing displacement up to 10 times. Safety, along with access to appropriate shelter, health care, and water and sanitation facilities, is a priority concern for the displaced population.

The Rafah Border Crossing remains closed while the deteriorating law and order situation is obstructing the collection of aid from the Kareem Abu-Salem/Kerem Shalom Border Crossing. Additionally, the floating pier remains non-operational. Evacuation orders issued for all of Gaza City and attacks on al-Mawasi have increased needs and further destabilized aid flows.

The intensified hostilities and breakdown of law and order, coupled with access constraints and fuel shortages, are creating a highly volatile and risky operating environment for humanitarian workers. Tragically, nearly 200 UNRWA staff have been killed since October, and 188 UNRWA installations have been damaged. Despite challenges, IOM is leveraging its robust regional and global logistics chains to ramp up aid deliveries into Gaza. By collaborating with humanitarian partners, IOM is supporting more resources to those in urgent need.
