Co-funded by Qatar Red Crescent strategic partners: Fakhoora and the Islamic Development Bank (within the GCC program for the reconstruction of Gaza) the QRC in collaboration with its Palestinian counterpart implemented 27 projects, including 19 projects for the development of disability services and 8 projects for the development of higher education in the Gaza Strip, with funding valued at $ 10 million.
The completed projects will be officially inaugurated from 3 to 5 June 2013 in the presence of representatives from QRC, the donors and beneficiaries. Mr. Rashid Mahanadi, the Director of QRC’s Khor branch will represent QRC the Opening Ceremony of some projects and celebration of the completion of others.
The list of projects to be opened includes:
• Establishment of the Jerusalem (Al-Quds) Open University center in Khan Younis worth $ 850,000.
• Creation of an internal department of clinical rehabilitation at Al Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis at a total cost of $ 540,000.
• Upgrading and maintenance of the College of Ability Development, Khan Younis valued at $ 326,000.
• Equipping and furnishing a meeting room at the College of Science and Technology in Khan Younis worth $ 250,000.
• Development of Physical Therapy Department at Ahly Arab hospital in Gaza worth $ 101,700.
• The establishment of a specialized center for the treatment of diabetes complications Al Wafa hospital in Gaza worth $ 247, 550.
• Development of a Physiotherapy department at the University College of Applied Sciences at a total cost of $ 145.330.
• Project for the building and furnishing of a technical workshop at the University College of Applied Sciences valued at $ 108,000.
These projects will contribute significantly to alleviating the suffering of Gazans who are experiencing the harsh conditions of siege; helping rehabilitate people with disabilities - as one of the most marginalized groups in society - through the provision of high quality services that contribute to their integration socially and economically. The project will also facilitate sustainable development and empowerment of the community their through the development of higher education, helping the academic development of young Palestinians and enabling them to foster their creative abilities.
