Support for Gaza and the West Bank – PSE131
Preliminary Appeal Target: US$ 1,001,913
Geneva, 22 May 2013
During 2012, life in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) continued to be characterized by poverty, unemployment, forced displacement, lack of access to basic goods and services, impeded freedom of movement and many other challenges. In November 2012, an eight-day cross-border violence between Hamas and Israel ended in a cease-fire brokered by Egypt. This conflict has resulted in an aggravated protection crisis in Gaza with serious negative humanitarian consequences, while the humanitarian situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem continues to be critical.
The ACT Palestine Forum (APF) has immediately activated its emergency preparedness plan, an emergency response committee was formed, and the appeal PSE121 was revised in December 2012. Several ACT members have decided to coninue carrying out the activities also in 2013. The peliminary appeal on hand provides a summary of the acitivities and a budget estimation.
The requesting members are the Department of Service to Palestine Refugees/Middle East Council of Churches (DSPR/MECC), Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL) and DSPR on behalf of the ACT Palestine Forum (APF). Activities planned include support to hospitals, education, income generation and capacity building. Particularly important is the psycho-social programme of ACT members in Gaza which provides counselling to people affected be the protracted humanitarian crisis.
This preliminary appeal will be replaced by a full appeal by mid June 2013. It will provide updated information, logframes and funding secured. We would apprecaite receiving indications of pledges and contributions to help requesting membes in designing the projects along with realistic budgets.
