Key Weekly Highlights:

• Escalating Casualties and Displacement in Gaza: Israeli military operations in Gaza led to a significant loss of civilian lives, with targeted strikes on residential areas, displacement tents, and aid distribution points resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries, including women and children. The destruction of homes and infrastructure further exacerbated the displacement crisis.

• Intensified West Bank Incursions and Settler Violence: The West Bank experienced a surge in Israeli military raids, arrests, and demolition operations, particularly in Jenin, Nablus, and Hebron. Concurrently, settler violence, including assaults on herders, property destruction, and land appropriations, continued to escalate, directly impacting Palestinian communities.

• Humanitarian Access and Operational Challenges: Humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza faced severe impediments due to active hostilities, targeting of aid workers and facilities, and critical infrastructure damage. The ongoing blockade and military actions created an increasingly perilous environment for NGOs attempting to deliver vital assistance.

• Widespread Palestinian Protests and Calls for Solidarity: Across the West Bank, protests and demonstrations in solidarity with Gaza intensified, highlighting deep-seated grievances against the ongoing siege and military actions. These protests, often met with force, underscore the persistent political and civil unrest.

Weekly Overview:

The reporting period from July 18-24 witnessed a continuation of severe security and conflict dynamics across Palestine, with Gaza remaining the epicenter of intense military operations. Israeli forces conducted numerous airstrikes, artillery bombardments, and ground incursions across Gaza's governorates, including Rafah, Khan Yunis, Deir al-Balah, Gaza City, and North Gaza. These operations frequently targeted residential areas, displacement shelters, and aid distribution points, leading to substantial civilian casualties, including women and children. Concurrently, Palestinian armed groups responded with rocket fire and explosive device attacks on Israeli military positions and vehicles, resulting in injuries to Israeli soldiers. The consistent use of heavy weaponry and extensive demolition operations by Israeli forces continued to cause widespread destruction and further exacerbated the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.

In the political and civil sphere, the West Bank experienced a heightened state of unrest. Israeli military raids and arrest campaigns were pervasive, particularly in cities and refugee camps such as Jenin, Nablus, and Hebron. These operations often involved house searches, confiscation of property, and the detention of numerous individuals, including those linked to resistance groups. Settler violence continued unabated, manifesting as assaults on Palestinian civilians, destruction of agricultural lands, and attempts to expand settlement presence. Public demonstrations and hunger strikes were organized across West Bank cities in solidarity with Gaza, reflecting widespread Palestinian discontent and calls for an end to the siege. Notable political developments included the Israeli Knesset's vote on a bill proposing Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and Jordan Valley, which drew strong condemnation from Palestinian factions and authorities, signaling a deepening political divide. Israeli forces also targeted four medical vehicles over the past week alone in the West Bank, taking the total number of attacks on medical and emergency services to seven across the area this past month alone.

The humanitarian impact in Gaza reached critical levels, characterized by severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. The targeting of aid security personnel, such as the incident in Tuwam area, and the damage to humanitarian facilities like the WHO premises and main warehouse in Deir al-Balah, severely impeded the delivery of life-saving assistance. Targeting of camps continues to be a major concern, with multiple incidents of displaced individuals' tents being targeted by shelling and airstrikes in areas like AlMawasi and Khan Yunis. The operational environment for NGOs remained extremely challenging and hazardous, with staff facing direct threats from ongoing hostilities and access restrictions. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported a rising death toll from famine and malnutrition, underscoring the dire humanitarian situation.

Furthermore, reports emerged from Israeli media and military officials that the Israeli army does not control 75% of Gaza's territory, with Hamas operatives reportedly emerging from tunnels to attack soldiers. This suggests a prolonged and complex ground conflict unless a ceasefire is reached, as Israel’s military targets in Gaza seemingly continue to be far from realized. Such dynamics further complicate humanitarian access as, aid continues to be obstructed by Israeli authorities.
