OPT: UNRWA signs a Memorandum of Understanding with The Andalusian International Development Cooperation Agency of the Regional Government of Andalucía

On the 30th of November 2009, AACID and UNRWA signed a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes the formal framework of cooperation between the Regional Government of Andalucia and UNRWA in order to jointly further cooperation and humanitarian aid programs to contribute to improving the living conditions of the Palestine refugees, in which the second clause states that the cooperation that develops from the aforementioned Memorandum will result in a Partnership Program approved by the signing of a specific Memorandum of Understanding between AACID and UNRWA every year.

The Partnership Program between the AACID and UNRWA for the budget year 2010 is "Improving maternal and child health in the refugee camps of Palestine". This program consists on the provision of perinatal care, included in the first phase of the UNRWA life cycle approach. To implement the Partnership Program, the AACID will grant to UNRWA an exceptional subsidy in the amount of one million eight hundred thousand Euros (€ 1,800,000).

This Memorandum forms part of the cooperation relations maintained by the Kingdom of Spain with UNRWA, in the context of the situation of poverty and need in which Palestine refugees are living in the Near East.
