OPT: Shooting near PM Haniyeh house, no one injured

GAZA, May 16 (Reuters) - Shots were fired near the home of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh late on Wednesday, but a pro-Hamas official who had earlier called it an attack on the premier's guards said the bloodless incident was "accidental".

The events around Haniyeh's home in Gaza's Beach refugee camp happened near midnight (2100 GMT), some four hours after Haniyeh's Hamas Islamist movement and forces loyal to the secular Fatah faction of President Mahmoud Abbas declared another ceasefire following days of violence in the enclave.

The government official, who is sympathetic to Hamas, first said up to three unidentified gunmen opened fire on Haniyeh's guards. But he later said there appeared to have been no hostile intent. Further details were not immediately available.
