2025/26 Academic Year Opens Amid Persistent Crises in the oPt
As the 2025/26 academic year begins across the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt), students and educators enter a school year marked by immense challenges, ongoing recovery efforts, and resilient hope. In the Gaza Strip, school-aged children are facing their third consecutive year without sustained access to formal, in-person education due to the devastating impacts of the ongoing war. In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, schools continue to operate under increasing protection risks and severe movement restrictions. Additionally, the financial crisis in the Palestinian Authority is affecting the regular payment of teacher salaries, leading to a reduction in school days. Despite these hardships, families, teachers, and communities remain steadfast in their commitment to education, recognizing it as a vital lifeline for children’s well-being and their future.
