A ceasefire agreement took effect on 19 January, allowing the entry of aid into Gaza to signficantly increase. An average of 800 trucks entered Gaza daily since the beginning of the ceasefire. Movements toward northern Gaza also began, with over 500,000 people returning to find immense and widespread destruction. The UN reports that over 90 per cent of homes in Gaza have been destroyed, leaving hundreds of thousands exposed to cold winter conditions. Shelter aid remains among the most urgently needed assistance - more needs to be done to meet the 200,000 tents stipulated in the ceasefire agreement. The Knesset legislation came into effect on 30 January 2025, directly impacting the work of UNRWA in Gaza and further disrupting the humanitarian response.

IOM is utilizing its extensive logistics networks to transport essential aid into Gaza. Once there, aid is distributed to those in need through partners operating on the ground. IOM has delivered more than 1.18 million essential items since October 2023 through a variety of channels, including bilateral partnerships, in-kind donations and IOM’s Common Pipeline Programme, which is a resource available to all qualified organizations. IOM is now scaling up its Common Pipeline Programme including through new partnerships.
