DELIVERING ESSENTIAL AID TO GAZA
IOM’s Gaza response is made possible through support from: IOM is utilizing its extensive logistics networks to transport essential aid into Gaza. Once there, aid is distributed to those in need through partnerships on the ground. The supplies are sourced through a variety of channels, including bilateral partnerships, in-kind donations and IOM’s Common Pipeline Programme, which is a resource available to other organizations. Border closures, bureaucratic impediments and severe access constraints have resulted in low levels of aid entering Gaza.
SITUATION OVERVIEW
The widespread devastation resulting from recent military operations in North Gaza – especially around Jabalya, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun – are making the conditions of life untenable for the Palestinian population there. From 1-12 November, “every attempt by the UN to access besieged areas of North Gaza governorate with food and health missions to support tens of thousands of people remaining there was either denied or impeded.”1 The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that the supplies managing to cross into northern Gaza have only been allowed to reach Gaza city, as opposed to being channelled to the besieged areas of North Gaza governorate.
