RESPONSE HIGHLIGHTS
IOM is utilizing its extensive logistics networks to transport essential aid into Gaza. Once there, aid is distributed to those in need through partnerships on the ground. The supplies are sourced through a variety of channels, including bilateral partnerships, inkind donations and IOM’s Common Pipeline Programme, which is a resource available to other organizations. Border closures, bureaucratic impediments and severe access constraints have resulted in low levels of aid entering Gaza in September and October.
IOM is preparing to send emergency items to northern Gaza in response to the growing needs caused by the recent offensive. An initial convoy of four trucks made it to Erez West / As-Saifa / Zikim Crossing during the reporting period, handing over 196 tents to UNRWA to distribute to people in Gaza City. Over 14,000 items, such as tents, blankets and hygiene kits, are currently in Ashdod ready to be sent to northern Gaza. If access allows, dozens more trucks will be delivering items to partners.
