Jordan: King orders treating sick Gazans in Amman

AMMAN, December 7 (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday directed concerned authorities to facilitate the treatment of several patients from the Gaza Strip, who are going through difficult health conditions, at Jordanian hospitals.

The gesture came in light of the acute shortage in medical requirements and medicine in Gaza's hospitals, a Royal Court official said.

He announced that these authorities, including Jordan's representation office in Gaza, are coordinating with the Palestinian and Israeli authorities to ensure the safe transportation of these patients to Jordan as soon as possible, to receive treatment and healthcare in Jordanian hospitals.

The siege imposed by the Israeli authorities on the Gaza Strip has led to a shortage in food supplies, causing the deterioration of human conditions there, especially after a drop in fuel shipments provided by Israel to Gaza, which has badly affected hospitals and the level of healthcare in the impoverished strip.

According to Palestinian officials, the Israeli authorities continue to prevent Gaza's patients from reaching hospitals. Palestinian Health Minister Fathi Abu Moghli described the situation in Gaza as "the worst over the past ten years".
