According to field investigations by the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, at approximately 2:10 am on Thursday 16 February 2012, Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at the Ra’ed military training site located in the At-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City. As a result, 11 people were injured, including two children and two women. A nurse at the Ad-Dura Hospital for Children and a family member escorting a patient were injured as the hospital’s windows were shattered. A civil defense member was also injured at his workplace, which is adjacent to the site attacked. Medical sources described the injuries as light. The training site was totally destroyed; four adjacent public facilities, and a number of adjacent houses, were partially damaged. This was not the first time that the site has been attacked. The sound of the explosions panicked children and women.

Al Mezan has identified the injured as follows:

· Aseel Radi Abdel ‘Al, 6; · Shemaa’ Othman Abdel ‘Al, 14; · Shirihan Othman Hasan Abdel ‘Al, 24; · Fatma Felfel, 40, who was escorting a relative at Ad-Dura Hospital; · the medic Zakariya Sa’eed Al Khudari Heles, 22; · the medic Mohammed Ali Mahmoud Lubad, 23; · Alaa’ Al ‘Abed Abu Ghaneema, 25; · Nader Ahmed Az-Zaqzouq, 29; · Maher Yihya Jamal Khalaf, 39; · Maher Fadel Attallah Al Jamal, 49; and · Mukaram Tawfeq Abdel Salam Hassouna, 52.

In a separate incident, at approximately 2:15 am on the same day, Israeli aircraft fired three missiles at a military training site located in Wadi Gaza village, northwest of An-Nuseirat refugee camp, in Middle Gaza district. As a result, the site was partially damaged. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns Israel’s continuous attacks on the Gaza Strip, which result in injuries and damage to houses and public and privately-owned property. Al Mezan reiterates its previous calls on the international community to promptly intervene to end Israeli violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law (IHL), particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. Al Mezan stresses the need to end the state of immunity granted to Israel by the international community with respect to gross violations of human rights and IHL in the occupied Palestinian territory.
