With the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran bringing hope for stability across the entire region, we strongly appeal for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The present moment may be the last chance to put an end to the ongoing suffering of civilians in Gaza. More than 56,000 Palestinians have already been killed and 130,000 wounded. Hundreds of thousands of families still suffer from hunger and have limited access to water, electricity and medicine. Each day of fighting deepens this tragedy, which the world cannot - and should not - ignore.
As an organization working for basic human rights, we remind you time and time again: every life has value - regardless of borders, language or religion.
Attacks on civilians and blocking humanitarian access are violations of international humanitarian law.
The world must not become accustomed to the nightmare endured by the people of Gaza. We call for an immediate ceasefire, allowing humanitarian organizations to provide aid without any preconditions, and the resumption of negotiations to end the fighting in a spirit of responsibility, solidarity and empathy.
- If not now, then when? - asks Maciej Baginski, President of the Management Board of Polish Humanitarian Action - It is high time to put an end to the spiral of hunger, death and suffering that has been going on in front of the eyes of the whole world for nearly two years now.
A ceasefire in Gaza is a step toward stabilizing the entire Middle East region.
There is no better time for this than now - before more innocent civilians die.
