Heavy rain and winds damaged nearly 300 homes. Initial reports indicate that over 1,000 people were directly affected, with that figure expected to rise.
As Gazans steel themselves for what is expected to be the toughest winter in a hundred years, homes in Gaza city and the northern Gaza have been flooded.
Weak infrastructure saw water inundating hundreds of homes following just three hours of heavy rain earlier this month. Many residents were left marooned by the knee-deep water and sewage, with refugee camps in the north also flooded.
Islamic Relief, which has been working in Gaza for almost 20 years, is calling for support for urgent projects to improve drainage systems to prevent further flooding – as well as help to repair homes and streets.
