Gaza Polio Campaign Update - Round 2: 20 October 2024 (Day 6/Day 2 of phase 2)

HIGHLIGHTS:

Day 6 of the ongoing round of vaccination campaign - Day 2 of the second phase - continued to reach additional children in southern Gaza

Southern Gaza:

• The preliminary coverage figures from Day 6 of the polio campaign (Day 2 of phase 2) suggest 90 716 children had been vaccinated with novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2). A total of 70 722 children received Vitamin A.
• A total of 236 544 children under 10 years of age were vaccinated in southern Gaza by the end of Day 2 of this second phase.
• The total coverage of nOPV2 in areas outside the humanitarian pause was impressive - in facilities such as Moaia Health Centre in Rafah, and Abasan Primary Health Centre and Egyptian Hospital in Khan Younis - and showed most target vaccination numbers were met.
• Some areas, such as Abasan El Jadida and Al-Qastal, were behind on their coverage targets, and are receiving additional attention, including through catch-up activities, in the following days.
