Overview:
Al-Maleh Basic Co-Educational School is located in the Hammamat al-Maleh area of the northern Jordan Valley in Tubas Governorate, within Area C of the West Bank. The school served children from the surrounding Bedouin and herding communities: Hammamat al-Maleh (Al Maleh, Al Burj, and Al Meiteh), Ein al Hilweh, and Ein al Hilweh–Um al Jamal. It provided primary education from kindergarten through fourth grade. At its peak, the school served between 43 and 70 students, though enrollment declined significantly over time due to increasing displacement and insecurity. The school played a critical role in ensuring access to education in a remote and marginalized area.
Establishment and Development:
The donor-funded school was established in October 2020, aiming to address the lack of accessible education for children in these rural communities. From the outset, construction faced legal challenges, as the Israeli Civil Administration (ICA) issued stop-work orders against the project. Despite these restrictions, the community continued to develop the school, adding two additional structures in September 2021 to accommodate growing needs. Earlier, in December 2020, a demolition order had already been issued under Military Order 1797 against a kindergarten structure being rehabilitated within the community.
