Al Mezan: Repeated Explosions in North Gaza District Are Worrying and Must Be Investigated

According to the field investigation conducted by Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan), at approximately 2:15 am on Friday, 19 February 2016, unknown persons detonated an explosive device at the main entrance to the house of the sons of the late Ashour Abdel Malik Deeb, which is located near a charity in Mashrou’ Biet Lahiya, in North Gaza district. As a result, Wafa' Asim Salim, 19, sustained minor injuries to her left foot. The house, along with six adjacent houses, Al Salama Al Khairiya Charity, and two small vehicles that were parked nearby, sustained damages. The police opened an investigation into the incident. It was clear that a timed explosive device was detonated on the main door.

At approximately 9:45 pm on Saturday, 20 February 2016, unidentified persons detonated an explosive device in an open area near the house of Sa’eed Issa that is located in Tal Al Za’tar neighborhood in Jabalia, North Gaza district. The house sustained damages in the attack. No fatalities or injuries were reported. According to police, a timed explosive device had been detonated.

Al Mezan expresses its serious concern for the repetition of such serious explosions that harm the safety of people and endanger their lives and property. Al Mezan calls on the concerned authorities in Gaza to open serious investigation into the incident and into similar incidents and to disclose the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
