Insecurity Insight identified 119 incidents in 21 countries and one territory where aid workers* were killed, injured, kidnapped or arrested (KIKA) between 01 January and 27 May 2025. In these incidents, 124 aid workers were killed, 83 injured, 73 kidnapped and 16 arrested. High incident numbers took place in the occupied Palestinian territory where 48 aid workers were killed and 29 injured in incidents attributed to Israeli forces.

Two mass abduction events contributed to the high number of kidnapped aid workers: in April, 40 aid workers were kidnapped by an Arab tribe militia allied with the RSF in North Darfur, Sudan; in March, about 17 aid workers were taken by suspected Qemant militants in Ethiopia’s Amhara region.
