Tropical cyclone YUTU continued north-west. On 23 October at 0.00 UTC its centre was located approx. 750 km south-east of Saipan Island and 750 km east-south-east of Guam, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h (typhoon).
Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to continue north-west, passing over the Northern Mariana Islands (especially Rota, Tinian and Saipan Islands) and northern Guam on 24 October afternoon as an intense typhoon, with maximum sustained winds of 205-220 km/h.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds will affect the area over 24-25 October.
As of 23 October, a typhoon warning is in effect for Tinian and Saipan Islands, a tropical storm warning for Rota Islands and a tropical storm watch for Guam.
YUTU could affect the same area affected by typhoon MANGKHUT on 9-11 September.
