Education main challenges in the region

  • The humanitarian situation in the region did not improve in the first quarter of 2024, with the number of displaced people increasing by 10% for refugees and 4% for IDPs.
  • The impact on education is also considerable, with a further increase in the number of schools closed (15% between the end of December 2023 and the end of March 2024), depriving more than 2.7 million children in total of a quality education.
  • The number of education security incidents also increased compared to the same quarter of last year (91 in Q1-2024 vs 55 in Q1-2023).
