Major issues include
Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas in Borno State are facing the aftermath of devastating flash floods caused by the collapse of Alau Dam, displacing over 300 000 people and causing widespread destruction. Critical infrastructure, including bridges and markets, has been damaged, hence isolating communities from essential services. The response is ongoing, involving local authorities and humanitarian partners supporting relocating affected communities from high-risk areas and establishing 30 temporary relocation sites in Borno. Despite these efforts, the rising food insecurity and overcrowding in many camps persist, heightening the risk of disease outbreaks, particularly cholera and acute watery diarrhoea, as sanitation conditions continue to worsen.
