In week 3, the number of new suspected cases was 79, compared with 34 cases reported in week 2, 2023. These were reported from twenty-two (22) states and FCT – Ogun (10), Abia (9), Lagos (8), Ondo (7), Bayelsa (6), Imo (5), Enugu (4), FCT (4), Kwara (4), Adamawa (3), Kaduna (3), Cross River (2), Delta (2), Ekiti (2), Nasarawa (2), Akwa Ibom (1), Borno (1), Edo (1), Osun (1), Oyo (1), Rivers (1), Sokoto (1) and Taraba (1) across 42 Local Government Areas.

Since week 1 of 2023, eleven (11) states and FCT have recorded at least one confirmed Mpox case across nineteen (19) Local Government Areas. Since the beginning of 2023, the States with the highest-burden are Lagos (25.0%), Abia (16.7%), FCT (12.5%), Borno (8.3%) and Imo (8.3%), contributing 70.8% of confirmed cases.

The number of confirmed cases is eleven (11) in week 3, 2023, compared with ten (10) confirmed cases reported in week 2, 2023.

No death was recorded in week 3, with a CFR of 0.0% compared with 7.7% of CFR that was reported in week 2, 2023.

Overall, since the re-emergence of Mpox in September 2017, 2769 suspected cases have been reported from 36 states and FCT in the country. Of these 2769 suspected cases, 1012 (36.5%) were confirmed (with males predominantly affected) from 34 states and FCT. Sixteen (16) deaths have been recorded since the re-emergence in 2017.

The National Mpox multi-partner, multi-sectoral Technical Working Group (TWG) continues coordinating the response activities at all levels.
