The RRM aims to provide a minimum package of immediate most critical life-saving assistance for newly displaced persons in hard-to-reach areas due to man-made or natural disasters or sudden urgent needs: until the first line cluster response kicks in. Through operational partners (both international and national), the RRM provides multi-sectoral lifesaving response in Nutrition, WASH, Shelter/NFIs and Cash assistance to the most vulnerable individuals. Currently, the RRM is led by UNICEF with ACF support as coordinator, including a total of 12 humanitarian partners, this includes 7 international NGOs and 5 national NGOs. In 2024, the protracted conflict in the BAY states was compounded by climate change induced natural disasters such as floods and heavy rains; forcing about 400,000 people to flee their homes, in addition increased the prevalence of malnutrition due to food insecurity and fire outbreaks worsened the plight of IDP households. Between January to December 2024, RRM partners deployed to provide lifesaving assistance to 383,167 individuals affected by natural disasters, fire incidences, epidemics and on-going conflict. Lifesaving assistance was provided with a notable focus on addressing the specific vulnerabilities faced by women and children. Three percent (3%) of the assisted through RRM were displaced due to conflict, 26% due to epidemics, 46% due to natural disasters and 25% due to malnutrition and fire related incidences.
