Highlights

Nigeria Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) 2023: There are significant and severe humanitarian needs across the northeast Nigeria, caused by poverty; further deepened by high rates of inflation; inadequate access to basic services, weak adherence to health-related societal laws, widespread insecurity and criminality, and the impact of climate change. The nature and impact of some of these risks are described in detail the HNO 2023 document with the link below.

Nigeria Humanitarian Response Plan 2023: There are profound humanitarian needs across northeast Nigeria, including displacement from violence, high levels of malnutrition and food insecurity, in addition to lack of basic services and protection. These needs affect tens of millions of people and these have enumerated in the Humanitarian Needs Overview. Many of the humanitarian needs occur because of poverty, poor or absence of institutions needed to deliver basic services and fragile adherence to disease prevention norms and laws, as well as intercommunal violence. Tackling these issues are beyond the scope, resources, and capacity of the Humanitarian Response Plan, which addresses the undiminished humanitarian needs in northeast Nigeria’s BAY (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe) states.
