On 24 July, an attack perpetrated by a gang of armed men in the remote Dan Gulbi district of the Maru local government area in Zamfara state has killed at least 34 people, of which 27 civilians an 7 soldiers, according to local sources.
The Northwest has seen an increase of violence and insecurity in the last three years with hundreds of civilians killed, thousands kidnapped and resulting in major displacements and humanitarian needs. More than 600,000 are internally displaced in the Northwest, with the most affected States being Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Sokoto.
In view of the increasing humanitarian needs, agencies operating in the Northwest have developed the Northwest Operational Response Plan for a total of USD 324 million 1) to deliver life-saving assistance and protection and 2) a humanitarian-development-peace response.
