Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall between 29 and 30 May have caused severe suffering and destruction in Mokwa, a market town located in the north-central Niger State. Provisional information indicate that more than 150 people have been killed and over 200 people have been injured.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management agency, more than 500 houses have been submerged, displacing over 3,000 people.
DG ECHO partners are supporting the government with rapid needs assessments on the ground. The most urgent needs are shelters and non-food items.
