Nigeria - Floods, update (DG ECHO, DG ECHO partners, SEMA, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 2 June 2025)

  • Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall between 29 and 30 May have caused severe suffering and destruction in Mokwa, a market town located in the north-central Niger State. Provisional information indicate that more than 150 people have been killed and over 200 people have been injured.
  • According to the Niger State Emergency Management agency, more than 500 houses have been submerged, displacing over 3,000 people.
  • DG ECHO partners are supporting the government with rapid needs assessments on the ground. The most urgent needs are shelters and non-food items.
