Led by the World Food Programme (WFP), the ETS was activated in North-East Nigeria in November 2016 in response to the protection crisis. ETS Nigeria Situation Reports are issued monthly.

Highlights

  • On 06 January the ETS commenced the deployment of the newly procured Internet Service Provider (ISP), with the aim to enhance cost efficiency and optimize the internet performance in the seven deep field operational locations. So far, the new ISP has been deployed in Bama, Banki, Dikwa, Gwoza, Ngala, and Monguno. The sector seeks to finalize the deployment and begin remote monitoring of the services from the beginning of February.
  • The ETS has completed the review of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host ETS services in two new locations―Pulka and Damboa. A partner in Pulka has duly signed the MoU to host the services whilst the ETS is now finalizing the agreement with the hosting agency in Damboa.
  • The ETS continues providing security communications services in 10 common operational areas across north-east Nigeria. 1,628 humanitarian staff from 16 United Nations (UN) agencies and 36 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have used the ETS Very High Frequency (VHF) radio services for staff safety and security in the field.
