UNHAS air transport operations are crucial in enabling the humanitarian community to reach remote and otherwise inaccessible locations in northeast Nigeria. At the beginning of 2017, the Logistics Sector and UNHAS identifed the need to coordinate and consolidate air cargo more efectively. Since February 2017, Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) has provided this vital service on behalf of the Logistics Sector. PUI collects air cargo from any agency location in Maiduguri and transports it to the Inter-Agency Logistics Base for consolidation prior to delivery to Maiduguri airport for air transport. The project was initially launched for three months and has now been extended for a further eight months, until the end of 2017. It is now mandatory for all organisations using the UNHAS helicopter service to consolidate their cargo with PUI.
