Description
The communal crisis between Ilobu, Ifon-Osun, and Erin-Osun in Irepodun and Orolu Local government areas of Osun State, is an agelong one that started over 100 years ago on the land and boundary disagreement reoccurred on the 19th March 2025 which resulted in significant humanitarian needs. The Nigerian Red Cross Society has supported the Government through the State Emergency Management Agency to respond to the crisis. In the recent crisis which started on 19 March 2025 several homes and businesses set ablaze, forcing many women and children to flee.
According to the assessment by the Nigerian Red Cross, there are:
1. Damage and Destruction: Widespread destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure was observed. Specifically, over 700 houses were burnt in the three towns during the incidents, resulting in significant loss of property and livelihoods Over 83 shops, 3 mosques, 5 Schools, and 4 churches were also burnt, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
2. Businesses Affected: Thousands of businesses, including small-scale enterprises and market stalls, were affected, leading to loss of income and livelihoods for many individuals and families.
3. Displacement: Over 5000 individuals and families were displaced, with some taking refuge in the IDP camps set up by the State Government and closed state.
4. Injuries and Fatalities: Reports of deaths, degrees of injuries, and fatalities were confirmed, with some individuals already receiving medical attention.
