Week 51 Highlights

• Thirty-three states and FCT have reported suspected cholera cases in 2021. These are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Rivers and Zamfara

• In the reporting week, 8 states reported 280 suspected cases – Borno (196), Lagos (38), Adamawa (25), Nasarawa (16), Akwa Ibom (2), Kwara (1), Abia (1) and Ekiti (1)

• There was 2% decrease in the number of new suspected cases in week 51 (280) compared with week 50 (285)

• Borno (196), Lagos (38) and Adamawa (25) account for 93% of 280 suspected cases reported in week 51

• During the reporting week, 13 Cholera Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) was conducted. RDT conducted were from Adamawa (11), Nasarawa (1) and Abia (1). Of this, a total of 3 (23%) were positive

• 10 stool culture was conducted. Stool culture conducted were from Borno (5) and Nasarawa (5) Of this, none (0%) were positive

• Of the cases reported, there was no death from eight states reporting with a weekly case fatality ratio (CFR) of 0.0%

• One new state reported cases in week 51 (Akwa Ibom)

• The national multi-sectoral Cholera TWG continues to monitor and coordinate response across states
