IOM Nigeria Flash Report #274: Population Displacement - North-west Nigeria - Sokoto State - Conflict/Violence (19 January 2026)

On 19 January 2026, armed attacks perpetrated by Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs) occurred in Yarkasuwa Magajin Gari community of Isa South Ward of Isa LGA, Sokoto State. The incidents affected a total of 1,074 individuals from 179 households, these included 419 children, 497 women, and 158 men.

Key informants reported that all 1,074 individuals from 179 households were displaced to the neighbouring state. The displaced households relocated to Gidan Gona Camp in Shinkafi South Ward of Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State, where they are currently residing in a camp setting.

Following these events, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field staff conducted rapid assessments to inform humanitarian actors, government authorities, and partners, thereby enabling a more targeted response. Food, shelter, water, hygiene (WASH) and non-food items (NFIs) were the most prevalent needs identified.
