Event Overview
On 15 June 2025, attacks by armed bandits in Sokoto State affected a community in Isa local government area (LGA), particularly in Isa North ward. The incident led to the displacement of 1,400 individuals from the affected area.
The displaced individuals fled to a neighbouring ward within Isa LGA. They currently reside in the Isa Town, specifically, within host communities in the Isa North ward of Isa LGA in Sokoto State.
All the key informants reported that the affected population has the intention to return to their places of origin. The displaced communities are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, particularly shelter, food, security and non-food items (NFIs).
Following these events, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field staff conducted rapid assessments to inform the humanitarian community, as well as the government and partners, and to enable a more targeted response.
Nigeria’s north-west zone is affected with a multi-dimensional crisis. Long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups often result in attacks and banditry or ‘hirabah’. These attacks involve kidnapping and grand larceny along major highways by criminal groups. In recent years, the crisis has accelerated, resulting in widespread displacement across the north-west region.
