The report, presents the results from Round 16 of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) assessments carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which aims to improve and better understand the dynamics and trend of the internal displacement in the north-central and north-west conflict-affected region. This atlas was assessed between October and November 2024 and reflects the number of IDPs from the ten states in Nigeria’s north-central and north-west geopolitical zone. The zone is the most affected by the conflict after the north-east and consists of Benue, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

In Round 16, 1,322,766 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were identified in 225,458 households. This represents a slight increase of approximately 10 per cent (or 130,350 individuals) compared to Round 15. One of the major reasons for such increase is due to the addition of new locations assessed. More so, other reasons could be attributed to attacks and displacements, disasters, seasonal mobility due to farming or in search of safety, security, or better services, etc. During Round 16, IDP assessment was conducted in 1,761 locations across the 10 north-central and north-west Nigeria states. The assessed locations included 104 camps and camp-like settlements and 1,657 locations where IDPs lived among host communities, recorded in November 2024.
