FOOD SECURITY SNAPSHOT

  • The 2011 cropping season has started in the South, while seasonably dry conditions still prevail in northern states.

  • Favourable rains in the major producing regions led to increased crop production at national level in 2010.

  • However, torrential rains last August and September in the extreme north of Nigeria caused flooding and damaged cereal crops.

  • A satisfactory food availability is expected during the current 2011 ( January/December) marketing year
