FOOD SECURITY SNAPSHOT
The 2011 cropping season has started in the South, while seasonably dry conditions still prevail in northern states.
Favourable rains in the major producing regions led to increased crop production at national level in 2010.
However, torrential rains last August and September in the extreme north of Nigeria caused flooding and damaged cereal crops.
A satisfactory food availability is expected during the current 2011 ( January/December) marketing year
