This July to August Progress Report provides an in-depth analysis of the lean season humanitarian response across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states, focusing on food security, nutrition, health, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions.
Key achievements include reaching 1.6 million people with food assistance and providing emergency agricultural support to 588,000 people in July. In addition, 43,000 severely malnourished children (23 per cent of the lean season target of 187,000) were treated in stabilization centres (SC) and outpatient therapeutic programme (OTP) sites. Overall, the number of OTP sites and SC beds across the BAY states has increased by 2 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively, compared to 2023 (from 750 to 765 and 1,650 to 1,904). Similarly, 15 SCs that were scheduled to suspend services during the lean season (including five in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Borno State will be sustained with funding from the OCHA-managed Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) and bilateral donors.
