Anticipatory Action Plan for Drought – Baure, Nigeria

Attachments

This plan shows how anticipatory action helps drought-affected communities in northern Nigeria act before a crisis unfolds.

This Anticipatory Action Plan (AAP) for drought in Baure Local Government Area, Katsina State, Nigeria presents a forecast-based, people-centred approach to managing recurrent drought risks. Developed under Welthungerhilfe’s WAHAFA program by CRUDAN, Oxfam, and partners, the plan combines climate risk analysis, clearly defined trigger thresholds, and locally prioritised anticipatory actions.

Early measures include drought awareness and mobilisation, distribution of drought-tolerant seeds and agricultural inputs, solar-powered irrigation support, livestock protection, and multipurpose cash assistance. By activating these actions ahead of peak drought impacts, the AAP aims to reduce food insecurity, prevent negative coping strategies, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable farming households in a highly climate-exposed region.
