IOM Niger Displacement Tracking Matrix Flow Monitoring Report n°96 (January 2026)

Attachments

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), through its Flow Monitoring (FM) tool, which is part of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), collects data at key entry, exit, and transit points to better understand population movements across West and Central Africa. The flow monitoring exercise aims to quantify and characterize migration flows, migrants' profile, and document their experiences and migratory routes.

Since 2016, several flow monitoring points (FMPs) have been progressively established in key locations across Niger to track migratory movements within the country. The data collection period for this report took place from 1 to 31 January 2026 in order to capture migration trends observed throughout that period.

In January 2026, 330,414 individuals were observed at the IOM's nine migration flow monitoring points (FMP) in Niger, representing a 26 per cent decrease in overall migration flow compared to December 2025. Of the movements observed, 111,893 people (34%) entered the country, 67,413 (20%) moved internally, and 151,108 (46%) left the country.
