Highlights

  • According to the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWSNET), 240,000 people are living in stress levels of food insecurity as a result of El Niño phenomenon (IPC 2). Without current humanitarian assistance, households will fall in to crisis levels (IPC 3).

  • With the start of hurricane season (May-November), WFP supported the Government with an emergency simulation exercise for the Caribbean coast to strengthen local and national capacities to prepare for crises.

  • If new funds are not secured imminently, the school meal rations will be reduced by 45 percent and children will not receive Super Cereal and vegetable oil. For many children, the school lunch is their most important meal of the day.
