A year after Hurricane Mitch ripped through
Central America, Church World Service and partner organizations the Council
of Evangelical Churches (CEPAD) in Nicaragua and the Christian Commission
for Development (CCD) in Honduras have announced that the Hurricane Mitch
reconstruction program will continue through March of 2001. Already, more
than 80 volunteer construction teams have begun or completed more than
1,000 new homes in Honduras and Nicaragua so far this year. Another 101
teams are scheduled into 2000. Any groups interested in participating in

Church World Service has provided more
than $1,457,000 in bulk food, Gift of the Heart Health and Baby Kits, medicines,
blankets and tools, and funds for the purchase of blankets and other emergency
supplies to partners in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala since the devastation
of Mitch.
