Central America: Felix death toll nears 100, officials say

Officials in Central America say the death toll from Hurricane Felix is approaching 100, with dozens of others have been reported missing.

Bodies have been washing up on Nicaragua's beaches since Hurricane Felix hit on Tuesday.

The category 5 hurricane's 260 kilometre per hour winds have left another 50,000 people homeless.

The Nicaraguan Government is beginning to deliver 4.5 tonnes of aid to the devastated areas and neighbouring countries have sent assistance.

The greatest fear now is of flooding, with both Nicaragua and Honduras on high alert as rivers in the region continue to swell.

Meanwhile in Mexico the death toll for Hurricane Henriette has reached nine.

Tuesday was the first time in history that twin Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes made land fall on the same day.
