Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge have been affecting northern New Zealand, in particular the North Island, one of the two main islands of the country, since 25 June, causing floods, rivers overflow and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in population evacuations and damage.
Media report, as of 27 June, several evacuated people, approximately 400 damaged houses and further 200 houses under evacuation notice across the Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti regions, eastern North Island where the worst affected is the Wairoa town area.
Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over the eastern North Island.
