  • On 22 January, following heavy rains, two landslides stuck Tauranga city and on the east coast of North Island, New Zealand, resulting in fatalities, people unaccounted for and destruction.

  • Media, as of 23 January, reports of two fatalities in Papamoa suburb of Tauranga and six people missing in a neighbouring campsite on Mount Maunganui, Tauranga. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

  • Over the next 48 hours, additional rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Tauranga and across entire New Zealand.
