Since 8 January, a wildfire has been burning in Le Mont-Dore commune, across Blue River and Prony areas, in the South Province of southern New Caledonia (France), causing damage.
According to national authorities, as of 9 January, the wildfire has burnt an area of 1,650 ha, and at least 30 firefighters, 12 helicopters, and 12 engine have been deployed.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR784) was activated in rapid mapping mode on 8 January to provide wildfire extent emergency mapping.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is high in the affected area.
