Strong earthquake of 7.3 magnitude (USGS) hit Nepal today at 12:50 local time, just 18 days after the major earthquake that killed over 7 900 people and injured 17 800.
Efforts are on to get information from districts about the impact of today’s earthquake. The Ministry of Health and Population and WHO are meeting at the Health Emergency Operations Centre.
16 deaths have been reported so far from Kathmandu, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha and Sindhuli. 335 people have been reported injured (as of 5 PM confirmed by National Emergency Operation Centre.).
WHO, on the request of MOHP, is mobilizing tents for four hospitals - Civil Hospital, Shree Birendra Hospital, and Trauma Centre in Kathmandu, Patan hospital in Lalitpur and Dhulikhel hospital in Kavre.
WHO is sending medicines and medical supplies with two assessment teams that MOHP is sending to Ramechhap and Dolakha this evening.
Later today, an emergency meeting has been called in the National Emergency Operation Centre by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which will be led by the Minister.
