Highlights

· The Government is now reporting more than 5,000 deaths and over 10,000 people injured in the earthquake. Eight million people in 39 districts have been affected, of whom over two million live in the 11 severely affected districts. Priority needs include food, water, shelter and medication.

· Plans to aggressively scale up food assistance are now underway with WFP dispatching and calling forward food supplies.

· WFP has launched a US$116.6 million Corporate Response Emergency Operation (CR-EMOP) aiming to support 1.4 million vulnerable and food-insecure people in the Western and Central regions over three months.

· Two Special Operations, valued at a total of US$34 million, designed to facilitate delivery of WFP’s food assistance response, will complement WFP’s relief efforts. As Cluster Lead for Logistics and Emergency Telecommunications (ETC), WFP is also facilitating the wider humanitarian community access to those affected through a common logistics platform, including humanitarian air services, and ETC platform under both Special Operations.

· A Flash Appeal of US$415 million (revised from US$393 million) was launched yesterday in Geneva. WFP's requirements account for 36 percent of the entire Flash Appeal and account for 87 percent of requirements under the Food Security Cluster.
