HIGHLIGHTS

  • In 2024, countries in South Asia experienced natural disasters, political crises, public health emergencies and conflicts. Cyclone Remal and monsoon rains across the region affected over 18 million children1 . Needs remained high in humanitarian assistance including health and nutrition, WASH, child and social protection, and education.
  • UNICEF provided life-saving support and reached over 650,000 children with micronutrient powder, while almost 1.6 million children and women gained access to healthcare. More than 496,000 people were provided with clean water and over 46,000 people accessed MHPSS.
  • UNICEF ROSA and Country Offices, in cooperation with National Disaster Management Authorities, developed and continue to implement action plans to strengthen Child-Centered Disaster Risk Management systems, including cross-country learning on shock-response social protection and enhanced youth engagement.
  • In 2024, UNICEF received close to US$ 8.7 million against its USD 37.6 million appeal. With US$ 6.1 million of carry-forward funding, the appeal is 41 percent funded.
