Overview

Heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding and landslides in Nepal, directly affecting over 80,000 people, with many others indirectly impacted due to the destruction of health, water, sanitation and education facilities.
UNICEF in collaboration with the Government of Nepal has provided lifesaving humanitarian supplies and services to more than 20,000 people. The safety and wellbeing of women and children, particularly those whose homes, health facilities, and schools have been severely damaged or destroyed, remain a major concern for UNICEF.
The rains, one of the heaviest Nepal has witnessed over the past decades, killed almost 250 people, including 55 children (20 girls and 35 boys). Over 10,000 houses, 62 health facilities, 240 schools, 550 water supply systems and 9,000 sanitation facilities have been destroyed or damaged. Landslides and debris have obstructed major roads leading into the Katmandu Valley, disrupting access to essential goods and critical services, including healthcare.
This has led to a rise in the prices of food and other necessities.
