UN concerns about situation in Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 19, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The United Nations is deeply concerned about the restoration of peace, democracy, rule of law and human rights situation in Nepal, UN Resident Representative to Nepal Matthew Kahane said here Thursday.

Kahane said, "The UN sincerely wishes for reconciliation of all parties in the conflict for peaceful resolution of the crisis in Nepal."

He urged all member states of the United Nations to support the package program that will be presented in its General Assembly meeting in September. The program includes the formation of a council on human rights.

The establishment of UN human rights monitoring team in Nepal will help improve the human rights situation in the country, he added.
