NEPAL EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION
• No updates have been available from 21st October 2023 National Influenza Surveillance
• National Influenza Centre (NIC) - National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) reported 14 diagnostic influenza samples on Epi week 45.
o One sample tested Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 positive
o One sample tested Influenza B Victoria positive
o None of the samples tested SARS-CoV-2 positive
• Provincial Public Health Laboratories (PPHLs) reported testing 43 samples for Influenza-SARS- CoV-2 using a Multiplex kit on Epi week 45.
o Five samples tested Influenza A (yet to be subtyped) positive
o Two samples tested SARS-CoV-2 positive
o None of the samples tested SARS-CoV-2 positive
• A total of 4,079 samples were tested by PPHLs from 2 Jan - 12 Nov 2023.
• From 2 January until 12 Nov 2023
o A total of 942 samples have been tested positive for influenza [(70 Influenza B (lineage not determined), 198 Influenza B Victoria, 8 Influenza A (yet to be subtyped), 590 Influenza A/H3, and 75 Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09)] and 1 co-infection of Influenza A/H3 and SARS-CoV-2 from 7656 samples (sentinel and non-sentinel SARI and ILI samples).
o Similarly, 264 samples tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 from dual testing of influenza and SARS-CoV-2 in 6,990 SARI and ILI samples received from sentinel and non-sentinel sites.
