NRA releases Rs. 9.95 billion for private housing reconstruction

Kathmandu, March 22: National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) released additional Rs. 9.95 billion for private housing grant today to ensure there is uninterrupted financial assistance for beneficiaries who have started housing reconstruction.

NRA has authorizedthe Central Level Project Implementation Unit(CLPIU) of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) to utilize the released amount to speed up the private housing reconstruction.The Ministry of Finance provided the amount to NRA today itself.

The reconstruction of private houses has been the utmost priority of the government. With the private housing reconstruction being expedited in all the earthquake-affected districts, NRA decided to release the amount to meet the growing demand for grant amount.

“NRA released the amount to ensure that the beneficiaries receive the installments of the government grant on time,” said Yam Lal Bhusal, Spokesperson of NRA.

NRA is currently making all possible efforts to further expedite private housing reconstruction. While it has been urging people to receive their second and third tranche by setting deadlines, it is also aware about the availability of the amount at the local level.

In the past few months, the pace of private housing reconstruction has increased rapidly. As of today, 367,165 houses are under construction. Moreover, 311,703 beneficiaries are being approved for second installment of the housing grant. Upon being approved, they will be able to receive Rs. 150,000 from the nearest banks.

Similarly, number of beneficiaries being approved for third tranche has also increasing significantly. As of today, 72,588 beneficiaries have been approved for third installment. They receive total sum ofRs. 100,000 as third installment.

The deadline for receiving second installment has been set for mid-April and NRA has requested beneficiaries who are yet to begin housing reconstruction to start the process and apply for second installment.

Similarly, NRA has also solicited earthquake victims who have received the first installment of the grant, but who have a house that is safe to live in, anywhere in Nepal, or who doesn’t want to re-build their houses within the given deadline, to refund the first installment amount.NRA has released a notice to contact District Coordination Committee for this matter.
